Explanation of award, discoveries and contributions
Lise Meitner made many discoveries and contributed tremendous amounts of effort but was not always recognized for her work because she was a women and women who want a bigger career were looked down upon. Lise Meitner, Otto Hahn, and Fritz Strassmann worked on the reactions that occur when neutrons bombard the uranium nuclei from 1934-1938. This experiment led to the uses of the split nucleus and they discovered the element of Protactinium.
When Lise Meitner was taken by Hitler's army because she was a Jewish descendent, they realized that her talents would make use of weapons for the war in her knowledge of chemistry and physics. After the World War 2, people nicknamed her the "Mother of the Atomic Bomb" because she contributed many ideas and experiments that led up to the atomic bomb.
Because Lise Meitner had discovered many scientific facts, she and her collegues had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry and Physics but Otto Hahn had ignored and left her part out in the award because she "downplayed her role" ever since she fled from Germany.
